A two-year-old girl who died after wandering from her home when her father fell asleep was found by her mother on their apartment porch in freezing temperatures, police say.

Upon finding her daughter unresponsive, Wynter's mother called emergency services, telling a 911 dispatcher that she had no idea how long the girl had been outside.

She knew only that the toddler was not breathing after finding her on Friday on the family's front porch in Akron, Ohio, where temperatures had been hovering around -9.5C. The weather in Akron was between 12 and 19 degrees Fahrenheit.

Akron police said the mother left the child with the father while she ran errands.

No charges have been filed, as investigations into the death continue.

Wynter Parker was found unresponsive around 3:30 p.m., according to the Plain Dealer.

When authorities knocked on her door, Lucas says she recalls being anxious before bursting into tears.
