Tsunami Warning mistakenly sent to phones

That led to reports of tsunami warnings being received by phones and other media by those in the East Coast, Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean, according to a weather service statement.

AccuWeather, a private service based in State College, Pa., said it sent out the message because of a coding error by the NWS.

An Accuweather alert was sent on February 6, 2018, but was later revealed to be a test.

"A Tsunami Test was conducted earlier this morning, that did have TEST in the message".

"Looking out the window and seeing the ocean puts you in a different frame of mind when you get a tsunami warning", he said.

At 8:30 a.m., a push notification was sent to residents' phones warning of a "Tsunami Warning in effect" for their area. The National Weather Service also made sure to alert its Twitter followers that the message was sent erroneously.

Apparently the National Weather Service was testing a tsunami alert, but the word test didnt make it into the final message.
