Kristaps Porzingis unlikely to be ready for start of next season

Kristaps Porzingis unlikely to be ready for start of next season

The team made the announcement on its Twitter account Wednesday.

Porzingis suffered the ACL tear in his left knee on Tuesday night against the Milwaukee Bucks when he landed awkwardly after converting a dunk.

As Kristaps Porzingis clutched his left knee Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden, memories of the New York Knicks' many catastrophes and false starts over the past two decades came rushing back. It'd be great if it wasn't, but with the Knicks, no one ever really knows. The Knicks have not taken a season series from the Bucks since going 2-1 against them during the 2013-14 season.

The Knicks fell to the Bucks, 103-89, dropping in the team standings to 23-32.

On Tuesday night, the National Basketball Association was served another hit.

Notes & quotes: Enes Kanter underwent surgery on his mouth and will not play Thursday in Toronto.

Ultimately, Porzingis' injury should alter the Knicks' thinking over the final two months of the season. The growth that he's had over the last couple of years and even this season.

Oneida County native becomes Detroit Lions' new head coach
Getting here, unbelievable welcome from the Ford family. "So if he is, they're getting a great coach". And, honestly, a common ground that we both understand is how we both envision a team being run.

He hoped to accomplish both during his third season in the National Basketball Association, his first as the unquestioned star of the New York Knicks. Or should I say, "was" a bright young spot. What if NY is on his radar this summer?

It's a devastating blow both to the playoff chances of the Knicks and to fantasy owners who invested an early-round pick in Porzingis and now must scramble to replace him. "Now that won't change as long as I'm here, regardless of where were at record-wise".

"It's sad. I wanted to reach out to him but I'll reach out to him tonight", Anthony said after Wednesday's (AEDT) win over the Warriors.

"Was hoping for the best news when I saw the play after the game", James tweeted.

NY (23-32) entered play Tuesday remaining hopeful of making a playoff run, though missing Porzingis for extended time would certainly dampen those hopes. But Knicks general manager Scott Perry was impressed with Porzingis' approach to this major injury and believes he will more than rise to the challenge facing him.

James was among several players to send words of support to Porzingis after the injury. The one silver lining to come from this - if there can be any silver lining from such a depressing event - is that without Porzingis, the Knicks should plummet in the standings - and, in doing so, improve their draft pick. And given the unlikelihood of NY finding a taker for exiled center Joakim Noah, he may wind up getting his wish and receiving more playing time after the trade deadline, particularly if the Knicks do move O'Quinn.
