Penguins beat Golden Knights to spoil Marc-Andre Fleury's homecoming

Fleury left a three-time Stanley Cup Champion after the Vegas Golden Knights selected him in the expansion draft.

"I had Geno on a breakaway and got a poke check in there so I let him know", Fleury said with laugh after the game when asked if there was any friendly trash talk during the game.

"It was so different to be in this locker room and going on the ice in another jersey and seeing them coming at me", said Fleury.

Fleury knew his departure from Pittsburgh was inevitable last spring, but didn't want to become a distraction as the Penguins sought to become the first team in almost 20 years to win back-to-back championships. With that in mind, Fleury wants desperately to win the game, but isn't looking forward to proving anyone wrong.

Winnipeg Jets' Dustin Byfuglien (33) attempts the wraparound on Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury (29) and Deryk Engelland (5) during the first period of an NHL hockey game Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Pens goaltender Matt Murray stopped 21 of 25.

- Fleury had 17,774 saves, the most in Penguins franchise history.

Murray stepped in when Fleury went down on the eve of the 2016 playoffs. He willingly chose to waive a clause that would have let him stay with the Penguins. "He's a great player, he's a great person and he's a great teammate".

"You always want to win", Fleury said.

"It's the first time I've been through it and I don't think there's anything that prepares you for it".

He underwent surgery on December 6 in Pittsburgh.
