Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu lashed out at Israel's top police chief on Thursday after the police commissioner said that "powerful" people sent private investigators in an apparent attempt to discredit police officers investigating the premier.

According to Ynet, "Police chiefs are in unanimous agreement that there is sufficient evidence to indict Netanyahu for bribe taking in Case 1,000 or the so-called 'gifts affair.'" The announcement is expected to happen on either February 12 or 13.

Ynet reported that police are split on whether they have evidence to bring charges against Netanyahu on that that case.

Israel has always been an worldwide leader in research and development for medical cannabis, and the country has made strides recently to establish an export-focused domestic production industry.

Alsheich's insinuation is "so grave" that it warrants its own "objective investigation" on the police's handling of the cases against him, added Netanyahu, who said the comments "cast a shadow" over the investigations. Israel is a state of laws, and the law says that if there is evidence against the prime minister, it is up to the State Attorney to decide with the State Prosecutor what to do.

In the conversations, transcripts of which have been leaked in the Israeli media, Netanyahu allegedly discusses limiting the circulation of Yedioth Ahronot's major competitor in favor of more favorable coverage.

But Netanyahu, one of the few allies U.S. President Donald Trump and the leader of the most conservative government in Israel's history, denies all allegations.

Netanyahu's allies have in the past said there is no crime in friends exchanging gifts, but investigators have reportedly arrived at the conclusion that they were in fact bribes.

Response by Netanyahu's political rivals has been sharp.

Ex-prime minister Ehud Olmert resigned from office after police recommended he be indicted for graft.

"Netanyahu made it clear to the ministers that Israel should not be the pioneer in this context, since besides Canada there is no country in the world that exports the drug", she said. "But I am positive that at the end of the day the authorities will agree with me - that there is no case".
