After taking receipt of 15,000 eggs instead of the 1,500 they wanted at this month's Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, Norwegian chef de mission Tore Ovrebo struggled to suggest what they will do with the delivery.

Hopefully the athletes representing Norway at the Winter Olympics like eggs.

"The biggest challenge is that we will serve food nearly 24 hours a day", chef Johansen told Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten.

The event had a happy ending though, the Norwegians did not get stuck with the enormous surplus of eggs.

So the chefs put in an order for them with a local supermarket, using Google Translate.

If you were to wake up next to a Norwegian athlete in the morning and ask them how they like their eggs, they might tell you "by the thousands".

'Fortunately, we could return most of the order, but we were quite surprised when they carried the eggs up to us. Norway's chefs will have to be inventive with the delivery which works out at 124 eggs per team member.

"When the truck showed up, they started to carry in the eggs", Norwegian Olympic Committee spokesperson Halvor Lea told CNN.

"They said themselves that it was a Google translate slip", Lea said. NBC Olympics is the US broadcast rights holder to all Summer and Winter Games through the year 2032.
