Flood watch issued for Wilson County
11 February 2018, 01:07 | Darnell Patrick
Three-day outlook for Sunday
A flood watch will be in effect for all of central Alabama from 9 a.m. Saturday through 6 p.m. Sunday, according to the weather service in Birmingham.
A slowing-moving front is expected to bring multiple rounds of rain, some heavy at times.
But if there is any doubt that we have had significant relief from long-term dryness now, that should be thoroughly soaked over the weekend, when 1 to 2 inches, locally more, of rain appears likely in just about all of our region.
More showers move in Sunday night into early Monday and in area far north and west there could be pockets of freezing rain. The New Jersey flood watch includes all of our coverage area - Mercer, Middlesex, Burlington, Somerset and Hunterdon counties.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed that area under a marginal risk, which means isolated severe storms will be possible. Given recent rains and somewhat frozen ground below, there could be some minor localized flooding issues especially in areas of poor drainage.
Showers and storms will continue to build in this afternoon and evening after a lull of activity this morning.
TUESDAY: A few rain showers will be possible, with a milder high temperature of 53 degrees. Our severe weather threat is low but it's non-zero so we must be weather aware. Once it starts, it only eases temporarily from time to time until the cold front sweeps through eventually Sunday. "But anyplace in the watch area should be monitoring the forecast in the next few days".
