Never before has the North Korean nuclear threat garnered so much global attention, culminating - thus far at least - in the Winter Olympics, being staged in Pyeongchang, South Korea, where there are now some intriguing power plays at work. North Korean state media said Thursday there was no intention on the North Korean side for such talks to take place. In January 1968, Kim Yo Jong's grandfather, founding North Korean president Kim II Sung, sent a squad of North Korean commandos to Seoul who tried unsuccessfully to kill then-president Park Chung-hee.

It cemented what has been a rapid improvement in Korean ties since North Korea - after months of fierce nuclear rhetoric and missile tests - agreed last month to attend its first Olympics in the South.

Seoul's Unification Ministry said Friday that the Mangyongbong-92 will return to the North on Saturday.

Performances displayed the sweep of Korean history and culture.

"Everybody's been wonderful, absolutely wonderful", said Mancari of the South Koreans.

The Winter Olympics have helped ease tensions between North and South Korea, despite the North's continued development and demonstration of its nuclear capabilities.

What will South Korea ask for?

At the first North-South dialogue in two years, it agreed to field a joint women's ice hockey team and have its athletes enter with those from the South at the opening ceremony.

Pence rode to the reception with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, and the two held a private conversation while waiting more than 10 minutes for a photo opportunity with Moon. The North Koreans were in the room at the same time as Pence, an official said.

Talks between North and South Korean leaders have happened in the past without yielding any significant changes in North Korea's behavior.

The 2018 PyeongChang Olympics Winter Games is expected to end on Feb 25, with more popular K-Pop artistes such as EXO and CL in the lineup to perform at the closing ceremony.

Mr Moon has previously said he will need reassurance from the North that it would help resolve the nuclear crisis.

He added that the officials spoke about inter-Korean relations under a "friendly atmosphere" at the Presidential Blue House.

Much ado was made about the close physical proximity between Pence and his wife, Karen, and Kim Yo Jong, though the three never publicly spoke.

The meeting followed a brief encounter between the two parties at the Olympic Opening Ceremony on Friday, in which Moon twice shook hands with Yo-jong.

"I am very confident, as President Trump is, that President Moon will continue to stand strongly with us in our extreme-pressure campaign", Pence told NBC in an interview, maintaining all options were open to deal with the crisis.

The North Korean sports program typically picks the top athletes from regional competitions at an early age and brings them to the capital to train in special schools and academies for many years, according to Young.

Neither President Trump nor North Korean leader Kim Jong-un are on hand for the Pyeongchang Winter Games, but they were there in spirit. Dozens of South Koreans at the airport tried to snap photographs of her on their mobile phones.

She is a senior member of the North's ruling Workers' Party and a key adviser to her brother.
