Klopp braces Van Dijk for Southampton return

Liverpool: This is the midfield we want to see against Southampton

Possible Liverpool XI v Southampton

Van Dijk's time at Southampton soured towards the end, with the former Celtic defender making little secret of his desire to leave.

An adrenalin-packed game of two halves may be a cliché but it proved to be a controversial affair on Merseyside last weekend.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insists they did not "steal" Virgil van Dijk from Southampton and the south-coast club should be happy with the world-record fee they received.

Despite the addition of Virgil van Dijk from Southampton, Liverpool look no better defensively and the Saints need to look to frustrate their back-line rather than sit back and counter. He looked sluggish in possession at times but his positioning was sound and he was dominant in the air, immediately demonstrating the kind of leadership Liverpool had been searching for.

Van Dijk has been playing well for Liverpool since his move but has still been caught up in controversy, with the team failing to win whilst he has featured. We're confident we'll do a good job in the league.

Ryan Bertrand has not been as effective in recent games but is expected to keep his place on the left flank at the back while Cedric Soares, who will be up against Sadio Mane, will start at right-back.

Charlie Austin may still be on the sidelines following his injury over Christmas, but besides the Englishman the Saints can boast a clean bill of health going into this Sunday's game with Liverpool.

Just as Juergen Klopp warned barely a month into the season.

Markets Right Now: Stocks swing back to gains, Dow up 50
Many investors justified that by pointing out that interest rates were low and few alternatives looked like better investments. The Standard & Poor's 500, the benchmark for many index funds, is also 10 percent below the record high it set two weeks ago.

The 26-year-old has also credited Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp for helping him become one of the most effective forward players in the Premier League. "It's not about this".

It makes it all the more important for Klopp's men to return to winning ways when they head to Southampton on Sunday, with Chelsea not in action until Monday night against West Brom. What Klopp can be criticized for, though, is not fixing the problem.

"Ox (Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain) is from there as well, even though he went a different way". He is happy so he doesn't care about getting more credit or recognition.

Naby Keita is arriving from Leipzig in the offseason but he is also a midfielder who drives forward.

Liverpool have lost just one of their last 17 league games, a 1-0 defeat at Swansea last month.

"Liverpool is an outstanding, big club and the boys have to do a lot of things around training, more than the other clubs but it is all good".

Think you can do better than Lawro?

Under 2.5 Goals is trading at [2.26], and while that's always a unsafe prospect when Liverpool are involved, there's an argument to be made.
