Sophia Alexa and Tay have all given unexpected responses

Users of Amazon's popular artificial intelligence-powered personal assistant Alexa have been reporting instances of the voice assistant laughing without being prompted, leading Amazon to search for a fix for the issue.

Amazon has since acknowledged the issue amid a stream of social media users bringing attention to it.

People responded with similar accounts including one who said: "It started laughing like she was being tickled". "We're aware of this and working to fix it", a rep for the company said in an email.

Its voice assistant Alexa is activated on Echo smart speakers through voice commands.

Another Twitter user reported that Alexa began laughing in the middle of an office conversation: "I asked why she laughed and she said, 'Sorry, I am not sure'". Was he afraid? "There's a good chance I get murdered tonight", he added.

It's previously been reported that Alexa-enabled devices can be triggered by ambient noises or even TV commercials. Moreover, according to Deezer, Alexa can recognize over 18 different moods among 74 different genres, so users can say something like "Alexa, play rock music", if they don't have a specific song, album or playlist in mind.

Hey, Alexa, what exactly do you look like?
