Counter-Protests Continue; Spencer Claims His Supporter Attacked

It's no surprise violence erupted Monday between protestors and white nationalists before white supremacist Richard Spencer's 5 p.m. speech on the Michigan State University campus in East Lansing.

The scene on the southern edge of campus was tense in the early afternoon hours, as protesters and "antifa" members met for the goal of rallying against Spencer and his supporters.

To prep for any problems, the captain said campus police received "mutual aid" from other law enforcement agencies in MI. Fights broke out at the protests outside and more than 20 people were arrested on various charges.

"The safety and security of our campus community remains our top priority", Monette said.

Police had blocked off the venue, which is away from the university's main campus, in hopes of avoiding such fighting. Spencer planned to speak at the University of Cincinnati this week but it fell through after the school demanded an $11,000 security fee, Spencer's attorney told The Associated Press.

The new development, which was initially a part of the rumour mill , has now been confirmed by Microsoft VP Joe Belfiore. Microsoft said the new privacy settings will roll out to customers with the next Windows 10 update this spring.

Spencer popularized the term "alt-right" to refer to a fringe movement that's a mix of white nationalist and anti-Semitic beliefs. "I think this shows that Lansing and Mid-Michigan will not stand for Spencer and his followers to recruit in our backyard". Police say there were around two dozen of them who met by the hundreds of protesters.

A few Spencer supporters turned around instead of trying to get in, according to reports.

Herron said if she ever had the chance to meet Spencer face-to-face, she'd remind him of a time in January 2017 when he was struck in the face by a protester during a television interview. The two side reached an agreement then to let Spencer speak.
