Jaguar I-Pace Charges Into Luxury Electric Class at $70K

Under the hood of the Jaguar I-Pace are two electric motors that will be powered by a 90kWh battery that will offer about 240miles of electric range.
The 2019 Jaguar I-Pace electric vehicle will undercut the Tesla Model X when it goes on sale later this year with a starting price of $70,495. Jaguar's I-Pace is an all-wheel-drive SUV (according to the automaker), so the natural competitor is the Tesla Model X. But the Model X is considerably larger than the I-Pace - the X is 198.3 inches in length versus 184.3 inches for the Jag - so it's not an apples-to-apples match-up. As an electric crossover, it was only natural to compare the I-Pace to the Tesla Model X, but without USA pricing, it was hard to tell how accurate the comparisons were.
The I-Pace is eligible for a $7,500 federal income-tax credit, as well as $2,500 and $2,000 purchase rebates in California and NY, respectively. Jaguar says it makes 394 horsepower and 512 pounds-feet of torque, and can hit 60 miles per hour in 4.5 seconds - a bit slower than the base Tesla Model S' low-4-seconds sprint. The Model X, on the other hand, can be configured with up to seven seats. What's more, Tesla cars have access to a wide network of "Superchargers" in the United States, which enables EV owners to travel long distances. But at home charging options include a 100kW charger that reaches an 80 percent charge in 40 minutes. Yes, they're both electric crossovers, but the I-Pace is smaller, only offering seating for five.
Introduce a new electric vehicle and it's nearly impossible to avoid comparisons with Tesla. Note that the standard Model 3 is not yet available.
