"I'm extremely happy to win the tournament for the fifth time on my birthday, and its an extra special day because it's my last Sultan Azlan Shah Cup", said Knowles.

Ramandeep Singh (10th minute) and Amit Rohidas (26th) scored for India, who needed a win to seal their place in the bronze-medal play-off, while Shane O'Donoghue (24th), Sean Murray (36th) and Lee Cole (42th) scored for Ireland.

Saturday's match capped a rather insipid campaign for India during which the only positive results were a 5-1 rout of hosts Malaysia and a 1-1 draw with European powerhouse England.

India won a penalty corner in the 10th minute.

Ramandeep Singh's penalty corner put India ahead against the Irish but O'Donoghue levelled matters when he slammed home a Kirk Shimmins cross. They got their first a penalty corner. Asian champions India finished a disappointing fifth after beating Ireland 4-1.

Rumors of Neymar's Return Are a 'Fantasy': Ernesto Valverde
Barcelona, however, is not the only club Neymar is reportedly targeting as a potential way out of Paris Saint-Germain. In late February Neymar suffered a broken metatarsal and is now recovering from an operation in Brazil.

India tried to create chances in the final quarter but failed to go past a cautious Irish defence.

One such attempt saw Nilam Sanjeep Xess's fierce pass from right side of the circle to find forward Shilanand Lakra poised in front of the goal.

Both teams reached the final with confidence with Australia unbeaten in the five prelimnary matches, while England were riding high after thrashing Malaysia 7-2 prior to yesterday's showdown.

In the 26th minute though, Amit Rohidas helped India reclaim the lead with a splendid penalty corner conversion, finding the top of the net with a fiercely-struck dragflick. The young lad from Sundergarh, Odisha ensured he didn't miss out on the opportunity as he beat Ireland's goalkeeper Jamie Carr, doubling India's lead to 2-0.

India seemed to drop their game slightly in the third quarter with Ireland scoring two back-to-back goals in the 36th and 42nd minute through Sean Murray and Lee Cole respectively. It was brilliant play by Talwinder Singh, who received a good pass from Simranjeet Singh who laid it to Gurjant and the young striker from Punjab made no mistake in slotting the ball home.
