CSA distances itself from Sonny Bill Williams masks; apologises to CA

Cricket: South African officials face action over Sonny Bill Williams masks

Cricket South Africa has apologised to David Warner, his wife Candice and the Australian team after two of its executives were pictured at the second test posing alongside spectators wearing Sonny Bill Williams masks.

It was earlier reported that fans planning to attend the second test in Port Elizabeth were preparing by making Sonny Bill Williams masks to taunt Warner.

The controversy follows the spiteful first Test in Durban, which saw a heated verbal altercation erupt between Warner and South Africa's Quinton de Kock.

The South African board, however, released a statement on Saturday apologising to CA and the Australian cricket team.

"On behalf of CSA, I extend my honest apologies to the board of Cricket Australia (CA), its officials, team management, players and their families", CSA president Chris Nenzani said in a statement.

Candice Warner was associated with Williams in a well-publicised toilet incident in Sydney in 2007.

CSA President Chris Nenzani also weighed in on the matter: "On behalf of CSA I extend my honest apologies to the Board of Cricket Australia (CA), its officials, team management, players and their families". According to Kazi, the group of fans then asked for a photo with him and Eksteen and the pair obliged.

Security had reportedly stopped fans with masks outside the venue before CSA intervened and let them in.

If they both do not go, then it is surely a sign that cricket is losing its class. "They said 'let's take a photo with you guys", Kazi said.

Kazi denied that his actions amounted to support for those wearing the masks.

"They're fans", Kazi said.

"David Warner gives [sledges] more than anyone else in cricket and he deserves to get it back", Mark, from the 'Karma Chameleons" told SA Cricket Mag.

"They're fans.they wanted to come with them". We let people in with Hashim Amla beards.

Warner was fined 75 per cent of his match fee and handed three demerit points after being slapped with a charge of "bringing the game into disrepute".

That issue is being taken very seriously by the world's governing body as the video was captured in a PMOA - a players and match officials area.
