The New York Giants reportedly will release cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie in order to shave $6.5 million off their books, according to Adam Schefter and Jordan Raanan of ESPN.

The Giants released Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie after he reportedly refused to take a pay cut to stay in NY. Per Garofolo, the sides are "far apart".

Rodgers-Cromartie, originally the 16th overall pick by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2008 NFL Draft, signed with the Giants as a free agent in 2014.

Rodgers-Cromartie allegedly had broken some team rules late the previous week in practice, before arguing with McAdoo on the sideline over playing time that Sunday in a home game against the Chargers.

One officer killed, another wounded during California SWAT situation
The second officer is expected to survive, Bergner said. "The other officer is in serious condition and is undergoing surgery". The unidentified officers had responded to a report that someone was barricaded inside a house, the Merced Sun-Star reported .

Rodgers-Cromartie joins a free agent cornerback class that also includes Trumaine Johnson, Malcolm Butler, Morris Claiborne, Bashaud Breeland, Prince Amukamara, E.J. Gaines and Patrick Robinson. Ogletree brings with him a $10 million cap hit this season.

The Giants' decision to cut Rodgers-Cromartie shouldn't be all that surprising. He followed up with six interceptions, which tied a career high, in 2016 and earned second-team All-Pro honors.

In his four seasons with the Giants, DRC recorded 160 tackles, 11 interceptions, 47 pass breakups, three forced fumbles, 1.5 sacks and a touchdown.
