Meanwhile, Goyal welcomed Agrawal to the party and said, "I heartily welcome my friend Naresh Agrawal in the Bharatiya Janata Party. He is welcome. However, his comments regarding Jaya Bachhan ji are improper and unacceptable", she posted on the micro-blogging site Twitter.
Agrawal quit the Samajwadi Party and formally joined the BJP in New Delhi after he lost out his Rajya Sabha re-nomination to Bachchan. For somebody who used to dance in films, act in films, I was denied a (Rajya Sabha) ticket. Agrawal joined the party in presence of Union Minister Piyush Goyal at BJP headquarters in Delhi. "I was influenced by the work done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath". BJP state president said that the party can't allow the spare votes to go waste.
However, his new party warned him that they did not like the comment made by him on actress Jaya Bachchan.
Mr Agarwal further said that his "community" (Baniya-Vaish) had "anyway" been big supporters of the BJP and would therefore be happy to see him in the BJP. The state's ruling party has a surplus of 28 votes and if gets the support of Independents and gains through possible cross-voting, its ninth candidate could also get elected.
Almost half an hour after all eight BJP candidates filed their nominations and left, Agarwal, who runs an engineering college in Ghaziabad and a school in Meerut, walked into the Tandon Hall of Vidhan Sabha along with BJP's Gonda MLA Shailesh Singh and filed his nomination. "We have had leaders who seamlessly shifted from being SP spokesperson to BJP spokesperson".
Agrawal, who had been an MLA several times and a minister in Uttar Pradesh, has often changed parties in the last over 30 years of his political career. I will always carry deep respect in my heart for [SP chief] Mulayam Singh Yadav and [MP] Ram Gopal Yadav, but the way things are going in the SP, has prompted me to leave.
His son Nitin Agarwal, who won Hardoi constituency on SP ticket, too joined the BJP today.
