The governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti state have rejected the committee chaired by Nasarawa State governor, Tanko Al-Makura.
The primary to select one of the 33 aspirants for the APC gubernatorial ticket was suspended after hoodlums disrupted the voting process over allegation that it was being manipulated by agents of one of the aspirants.
It was gathered that thugs had attacked the ballot boxes and smashed them to the ground, emptying the ballot papers.
They also stated that the people of Ekiti have shown they would not support the former governor in compromising democracy in the state and Fayemi now knows he does not have Ekiti in his pocket.
A day to the primary, an interest group, Ekiti Coalition for Dynamic Change, (ECDC), had alleged that supporters of two aspirants, Chief Segun Oni and Senator Babafemi Ojudu, planned to unleash terror at the primary.
NAN reports that only delegates from four local governments had concluded their voting when violence erupted.
They also alleged that some security operatives close to the voting area were telling the delegates how to vote and to vote for Mr Fayemi.
Fayemi's agent said it was a gang-up against the Minister that led to the spurious allegation, accusing those peddling rumour as enemies of APC.
"They disrupted the election because we are leading".
Alleging that the APC is plotting to disrupt the May 8 primary of the PDP, the governor said: "Another worrisome development is the information at my disposal that the APC is plotting to sponsor thugs to disrupt the PDP primary election scheduled for Tuesday, May 8, 2018 so as to create the impression that violent is common to all political parties".
Thirty-three aspirants partook in the primary which was marred by violence.
Bamisile said: "Agents of a particular aspirant were underwriting for some illiterate voters which other aspirants complained about".
Daramola said: "There was an issue somewhere about the exercise and they raised observation about sharp practices that had compromised the process, which led to protest and the feeling was that the process should be suspended to avoid bloodshed". If Fayemi defeats us, we are all going to back him, because the party is supreme. "Ekiti people must be allowed to choose their next governor under a free and fair atmosphere".
The primary is being held for the July 14 governorship election.
In a statement by his Special Assistant on Public Communication and New Media Lere Olayinka on Saturday, the governor described the incident as "shameful".
