Whatsapp Black Dot Message can Crash Your App and Phone

'Black dot' bug is the latest Unicode text handling flaw to crash iPhone and iPads, works on iOS 11.3 and iOS 11.4

Unlike the WhatsApp crash where you would have to tap on the black dot to crash the application, in iOS just opening the message causes the application to crash.

In a demo video, EverythingApplePro demonstrated how the bug, which he refers to as a "prank", works in real time. Now, iOS users are also receiving a "Black Dot message" which is crashing the iMessage app.

A bug discovered in Apple's Messages app can paralyze your iPhone or iPad with just a simple black dot. Upon receiving the message, tapping the top part of the text would cause the app to "expand" the symbols, causing the app to overload and even crash the phone's entire operating system. Apple is typically fast in responding and fixing bugs, so you should expect the company to come out with a fix for the black dot bug soon enough.

The phone is trying to load hundreds of thousands of characters the recipient can't see, which causes your device's CPU to quickly get clogged. However, only Android phones are known to have fallen victim to the bug completely.

Spotify Removes R. Kelly's Music From Its Playlists; Doesn't Reflect Their Values
Big kudos to Spotify for putting their foot down, now go ahead and delete R.Kelly and XXXTentacion from all your playlists. Kelly's music from all Spotify owned and operated playlists and algorithmic recommendations such as Discover Weekly ".

According to MacRumors, there are a few different ways to fix this issue.

The screen then goes blank and will remain blank until either Apple issues a fix for it or you take advantage of one of the fixes that have been made available online.

The problem with messages containing the bug, which reportedly affects iPhones and iPads running on iOS 11 to iOS 11.4, is actually not the black dot itself. Users need to force-quit the Messages app on their devices and then open a New Message screen through a quick action by long-pressing the Messages app. Users will then be able to delete the conversation thread including the black dot message.

Hackers are forwarding a "text bomb" message which looks innocent at first but could have serious consequences.
