Ebola Virus Disease, which raged in some African countries, has returned in northwest part of Democratic Republic of Congo, DRC, killing 17 people.

Cases of hemorrhagic fever were reported in an area of Congo facing an Ebola epidemic as long ago as December and the first deaths were reported in January, the World Health Organization said on Thursday, as four new suspected cases surfaced.

Most of the cases have been recorded around the village of Ikoko Impenge, near the northwestern town of Bikoro.

Researchers found there was just a small number of so-called "superspreaders" - highly infectious people who infect many others - in West Africa. He says the situation calls for an immediate and energetic response.

Officials from the World Health Organization and other global health agencies are in the area to help contain the outbreak's spread.

FAAN's spokesperson, Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu said relevant agencies including the Port Health Services have been mobilized and are collaborating effectively to ensure the safety of passengers and other airport users.
