Police IG Ibrahim Idris
The Senate entered into closed session following the failure of the IGP to honour the invitation of the red chamber for three consecutive times.
Idris has also described the resolution of the Senate during its plenary on Wednesday finding him unfit to hold public office as not only unfortunate but also a blackmail, a witch hunt, and mischievous.
Senate President Bukola Saraki, who announced the submission, said: "The Senate noted that his (IGP) earlier refusal to appear before our investigative committee was overruled by a court of competent jurisdiction just in April this year".
In his reaction, senator Enyinnaya Abaribe called for stiff punishment against the IGP, pointing out that by his actions, the chief police officer has shown he has no respect for the senate while calling for a close session.
Idris was first summoned on April 25, but he failed to appear, rather sent a DIG to represent him at the Senate, noting that he was on an official assignment to Bauchi with President Muhammadu Buhari.
Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, was summoned to have his explanations on efforts of the force to curtail the killings in the country, not because of the arrest of Senator Dino Melaye, the Senate has said.
Mets bat out of order in embarrassing mixup
Per the rules, that means the next batter - Jay Bruce - was automatically called out, with the scoring being groundout to catcher. After Wilmer Flores struck out for the second out of the inning, Asdrubal Cabrera reached on a ground-rule double.
"The leader of the Senate would also mandate to look into the matter for further necessary action".
The Senate said the crux of the matter that informed the invitation is the ceaseless spate of killings across the country and that matters concerning the arrest of Senator Melaye has in fact been overtaken by events.
"It is very unusual for a public servant to act like this". It either dies abruptly or in bits and what is happening today in Nigeria is that democracy is dying in bits.
"Let it be known that the IGP by trying to reduce the reason for his invitation by the Senate to the arrest of Sen. This is a national disgrace". "And where any public officers can not do this, there is no need for such to continue to occupy that kind of office".
The Senate consequently asked the Police Chief to appear before it unfailingly on Wednesday, May 9, 2018. I believe that a decision has to be taken on the way forward. It is inexcusable, unacceptable and condemnable, and calls for immediate action. "It requires immediate action and i think this Senate needs to take serious action in looking for a way forward". We can not take this embarrassment any longer. "The Nigeria Police Force is the first defender of Democracy and all democratic institutions in Nigeria and will continue to do so", the statement read in part.
"The National Assembly insisted again that he must come in person".

US Senate to Vote to Reinstate Internet Neutrality
With the prolonged absence of Senator John McCain due to illness, proponents believe they will win on a 50-49 vote. The Senate will vote to try to block the death of net neutrality, but at this point it would take a miracle.
