How you can help 'Stamp Out Hunger' in Houston on Saturday

Letter carrier/Rotarians to have food drive this Saturday

"It's the largest one-day food drive probably in the world", said letter carrier and former event coordinator Kevin Mustaine. "Maybe they've been in a situation like that, too".

Across the country, letter carriers spent Saturday collecting bags of food donations for this year's Stamp Out Hunger campaign. "We'll have carriers out 'til whatever time necessary to get all the food collected". Around this time of year, supplies are low, which is where the drive comes into the picture.

Last year, the food drive surpassed a billion pounds in its 26-year history. This is when postal workers across the nation pick up food items from people's houses.

Dean Crisman has worked at the post office for 22 years, and says he's happy to deliver mail, food, and smiles to families. Monetary donations can also be made online at feedinghope.org or by calling 405-600-3136.

On Saturday letter carriers were picking up more than mail in Rapid City.

"We've been successful in previous years of being number one, so hopefully we'll be able to do that again this year", Hoffman told News 4. They're taking a little something back to the truck with them.

Now is the ideal time to help them stock up.

A big food drive is happening this weekend, and those who want to participate do not even have to leave home.
