Fifth seed Dominic Thiem takes on second seed Alexander Zverev in the men's singles final of the ongoing ATP Masters 1000 tournament - Madrid Open 2018 at Caja Magica on Sunday, May 13.

The 21-year-old third seed was clinical as he trounced erratic Canadian Shapovalov, two years his junior, 6-4 6-1 in less than an hour on centre court.

It was Zverev's second win in six meetings with Thiem. "If I had played normal I would have no chance", Thiem said. Obviously he's leading the head-to-head.

"In general, I was playing not good enough. So is he. Hopefully it will be another entertaining one".

Zverev dominated the entire week in the Spanish capital, not losing a single set en route to victory. "When I win, I don't talk much when I'm in the next events about the previous weeks", Nadal, who has a first round bye, said ahead of the clay-court Italian Open. "The 6'6" right-hander has yet to drop serve this week in Madrid, and he hasn't faced a break point since his third-round match against Argentina's Leonardo Mayer.

Thiem unsettled Nadal from the start, breaking his serve twice in the first set.

Thiem claimed a first win against Anderson at the seventh attempt with a commanding display.

Estrada allowed no runs over six innings Sunday in a no-decision against the Tampa Bay Rays, a 2-1 Toronto win at Tropicana Field. After police and security staff escorted the fan out the gate in right field, Cora came out to make the change.

Zverev started the second set in similar fashion, hitting a deep forehand that Thiem could only send into the net on the final point of his service game to fall behind a break.

"It gave me a huge boost of confidence", he said.

Though Cilic was impressed by the form of the Austrian, he explained why beating Nadal in Paris - where the 16-time Grand Slam champion is chasing an 11th title - is a completely different kettle of fish.

Interesting starts for (15) Berdych vs. Shapovalov who is finding his footing on clay, (6) Thiem vs. the Fognini-Monfils victor, (3) Dimitrov vs. Nishikori, (13) Sock vs. the former French runner-up Ferrer, the struggling (11) Djokovic vs. It was 0-6 before today. Was a little bit exhausted in Monte-Carlo, but still got to the semifinals, so.

"But, you know, after 14 years being in the position that I have been fighting for, important things, I can lose, I can win".

The same feeling is true for Zverev, who has a chance to become the fifth active player with three Masters 1000 championships.
