More illnesses confirmed in Rose Acre Farms Salmonella recall
In total 35 cases have been reported across nine states with 11 people hospitalized.
A salmonella outbreak that led to the multi-state recall in April of more than 200 million eggs has worsened in recent weeks, with the number of people sickened by the bacteria rising to nearly three dozen.
A report from Food Safety News provided more information on the confirmed salmonella cases, noting that the people sickened by the tainted eggs ranged from 1 to 90 years old, with a median age of 65. NY and Virginia have reported the highest number of cases, with eight each.
Illnesses were reported in nine different states - Colorado, Florida, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia.
Brands affected include Country Daybreak, Coburn Farms, Crystal Farms, Cal-Maine Foods, Inc., Sunshine Farms and Glenview, with some eggs sold at Walmart, Publix and Food Lion stores. The eggs were delivered to multiple supermarket chains and even directly to some restaurants. Another 22 people said they ate shelled eggs before contracting salmonella, the CDC reported.
Aishwarya is the ultimate boss lady at Cannes 2018 Day 2
While the look didn't quite live up to our expectation, Aishwarya's look at the red carpet more than compensated for the same. Today, she absolutely rocked the summery Manish Arora outfit and started her Cannes journey on a happy and colourful note.
"We apologize to anyone who may have been sickened or who has a family member or friend who may have taken ill because of our eggs", the company said.
Consumers, restaurants and retailers are still advised not to eat, serve or sell recalled eggs produced by Rose Acre Farms' Hyde County farm. The possibly tainted eggs were distributed from the farm between January 11 and April 12. Young children and the elderly are the most at risk for infection. Alternatively, bacteria in the hen's ovary or oviduct can get to the egg before the shell forms around it. The bacteria can also pass through chicken feces getting on the eggs.
Salmonella is a bacterial infection that causes symptoms such as a diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps.
