The year after the original "Superman" was released, she starred in another box-office smash, "The Amityville Horror", in which she and James Brolin played a couple doing battle with a possessed house. Kidder brought a spunk to the role which made her both the ideal investigative reporter and the flawless foil to the always composed Superman. While Kidder will undoubtedly be remembered as that fearless reporter, she's leaving another legacy, too: her advocacy for mental health awareness. Her first marriage was to Thomas McGuane in 1975.
Mark Hamill stated on his Twitter feed "On-screen she [Kidder] was magic". "Off-screen she was one of the kindest, sweetest, most caring woman I've ever known".
Kidder was born in Yellowknife, Canada, and graduated from a Toronto boarding school before pursuing acting. Something about her that feels whole and true. However, Kidder had not been taking her medication prescribed to her.
Kidder's career began in the 60s with an appearance on the short-lived television drama Wojeck and continued into the present day, most recently with an appearance in the 2017 film, The Neighborhood. She later played twin sisters inBrian De Palma's thriller Sisters, before breaking out in director Richard Donner's live-action superhero film playing Lois Lane opposite actor Christopher Reeve's iconic portrayal of Superman and his mild-mannered alter ego, Clark Kent. Beyond that, though, she mostly stayed out of the headlines notwithstanding her political activism and the fact that she was, for a time, linked to a romance with former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau.
