Tributes poured in from the world of football following news of Samuel's death.

The Trinidad and Tobago Football Association released a statement on their Facebook page.

An England youth global, he switched allegiance to Trinidad, where he was born, in a bid to play at the 2006 FIFA World Cup, but FIFA rejected his application.

The Trinidad and Tobago FA first made public the news on their Facebook page, revealing that the former Aston Villa and Bolton defender was heartbreakingly killed in a auto crash after dropping his children off at school.

Samuel, who was born in San Fernando, played for Aston Villa Football Club in the United Kingdom from 1999-2007, then moved on to the Bolton Wanderers.

According to a report on the Telegraph, Jlloyd was on his way home after he had dropped off his children at their school and was unfortunately involved in a collision with an oncoming vehicle.

Bolton Wanderers also released a statement via the club's Twitter account.

He played youth football for Charlton before joining Aston Villa, where he made almost 200 appearances between 1999 and 2007.
