World News: Extremely uncommon 'mind swelling' Nipah virus kills 13 and leaves at the very least 200 in hospital in India amid fears of a worldwide epidemic
The Nipah virus, which is spread by fruit bats, can cause a communicable disease that can be fatal for both animals and humans.
A 20-year-old man travelling from Kerala to Goa's capital Panaji is under observation at the Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim after he developed symptoms similar to those who have the Nipah infection, PTI reported.
"It states the case definition, symptoms and signs, how to detect the cases and how to take all the precautionary measures since the Nipah virus can be transmitted from person to person, through body fluids", she said.
The Health Ministry has also taken several preventive steps to prevent the spread of the deadly virus.
All animal samples, including those from bats, cattle, goats and pigs from the southern state of Kerala, sent to the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases, in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, were negative for Nipah, said animal husbandry officer A. Mohandas. In these cases, people can become drowsy, disoriented and suffer convulsions and coma.

The UAE's Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCAE) has banned the imports of fruits and vegetables from Kerala, India and animal products from South Africa.
Nipah virus has already claimed the lives of 14 people in Kerala.
The Stanford University epidemiologist added: "It is conceivable that there is now a strain of Nipah virus circulating among bats that, if it infected people, would efficiently transmit from person to person".
Nipah has killed 260 people since 1998 in Bangladesh, India and Malaysia.
