Giuliani: President Trump Has Constitutional Authority To Pardon Himself

Trump’s team denies president plans to pardon himself

Rudy Giuliani: President Trump could pardon himself, but he probably wouldn’t

Trump started an early-morning firestorm on Monday when he claimed to "have the absolute right to PARDON myself" but said he had "done nothing wrong" with regard to special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian election meddling and the Trump campaign's possible participation in that. Sanders repeatedly replied to these inquiries by saying the president wouldn't ever need to pardon himself because he "hasn't done anything wrong".

Trump also tweeted another attack on Mueller's authority, writing that "the appointment of the Special Counsel is totally UNCONSTITUTIONAL!"

Moscow officials have denied allegations of interference, calling the accusations groundless and absurd. After a year of investigations, Mueller hasn't produced proof of any such collusion and appears to have shifted toward a search for evidence that Trump impeded the investigation.

That power includes "the power to pardon any person before, during or after an investigation and/or conviction", they said in the letter.

Trump's legal team first suggested the president's right to pardon himself in a letter to special counsel Robert Mueller in January, which was obtained by The New York Times and published Saturday.

While experts were divided on the legality of Trump's claim, late-night comedians were not.

Harvey Weinstein Pleads Not Guilty To Rape & Sexual Misconduct Charges
London's Metropolitan Police and Los Angeles prosecutors have said they are reviewing accusations of sexual assault against him. The Guardian reports that Weinstein walked into the Manhattan court "with a limp, looking pale and taking in his surroundings".

But he said doing so would have "tough" political ramifications.

"That is no [questioning] under oath, only a Q&A, and then we get the questions in advance, and they write the report two weeks before", Giuliani said. John Cornyn, the second ranking Republican in his chamber and a former Attorney General of Texas, told reporters on Monday: "I wish he wouldn't comment on things like that" because it raises questions "that really have been laid to rest". Pardoning yourself is another. "It's an abuse of the pardon power for the president to self-pardon".

The President on Thursday pardoned conservative commentator and filmmaker Dinesh D'Souza, who pleaded guilty in 2014 to USA campaign finance law violations.

"The law of the United States is that the president of the United States has unlimited, unreviewable power to pardon people from federal crimes even before they are convicted", he said Wednesday.

Giuliani has become a lightning rod during his tenure on Mr. Trump's team, drawing the president's ire for a series of scattershot interviews.

Giuliani also said, "Right from the very beginning, this is a tainted investigation", referring to Comey's illegally leaked memo.
