Kate Spade Began to 'Distance Herself' From Friends Before Her Death

07 June 2018, 12:48 | Max Haynes

One of Spade's sisters, Reta Saffo, told the New York Daily News that the suicide didn't come as a surprise.

Her business would later expand into hundreds of Kate Spade New York stores in North America and in Japan, with her products on shelves in more than 450 stores worldwide.

She is thought to have taken her own life and NYPD Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea said that they are not treating the designer's death as suspicious.

"I was like 'It's Mother's Day, bitch...'" she says in what may be one of the last videos of her alive. She also said that she "tried numerous times to get her help".

"She was always a very excitable little girl and I felt all the stress/pressure of her brand (KS) may have flipped the switch where she eventually became full-on manic depressive", Saffo wrote, using a term that was once used for bipolar disorder.

Despite several attempts by Kate Spade's family to get her help, her pain was too much for her to handle, explained Saffo.

The legendary designer reportedly left a suicide note near her body, which was addressed to the couple's 13-year-old daughter, Frances Beatrix.

Revered fashion designer Kate Spade, 55, died by suicide at her Manhattan home Tuesday.

"Fuzzy picture but I love it. Kate and I during Christmas family photos".

"I'd come so VERY close to getting her to go in for treatment". I still cant believe it.
