The White House earlier announced that the first meeting will begin at the Capella Hotel on Sentosa Island at 9 a.m. next Tuesday.

The US State Department said that a "maximum pressure campaign" will continue against North Korea although US President Donald Trump said last week he did not like the term.

Asked about the contents of Kim's letter, White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders declined to "get into the specifics of the letter" but added "we feel like things are continuing to move forward and good progress has been made".

US President Donald Trump in Washington on May 17 and North Korea leader Kim Jong Un in Panmunjom, South Korea, on April 27.

Trump and Kim will reportedly meet at a luxury resort on Sentosa Island, where Trump hopes to secure a nuclear deal with the North Koreans, seeking for Kim to give up his nuclear program, according to reports.

Following a back-and-forth between the U.S. and North Korea, Trump on Friday announced that the summit was back on.

The minister, who will be accompanied by foreign ministry officials, will also meet the North's ceremonial president Kim Yong Nam, the statement said.
