North Korea leader Kim arrives in Singapore ahead of Trump meeting
"The imagery of Kim and Trump holding hands, embracing and declaring an end to the Korean War, is probably something they both individually want", said Laura Rosenberger, a senior fellow and director of the Washington-based Alliance for Securing Democracy.
President Donald Trump and North Korea'sKim Jong Un came together for a momentous summit Tuesday that could determine historic peace or raise the spectre of a growing nuclear threat, with Trump pledging that "working together we will get it taken care of".
"This is Trump's natural setting - he's used to being in front of TV cameras while this might not be so natural for Kim", he said.
"He said Singapore is clean and handsome and every building is stylish as he heard of in the past, adding he is going to learn a lot from the good knowledge and experience of Singapore in various fields in the future", KCNA reported. I think better than anybody could have expected. "Top of the line, really good". "We're going right now for a signing".
He gave no further details.
He expressed hope that Mr Trump and Mr Kim would be able to make progress.
With a handshake, the leaders of the United States and North Korea broke through decades of antagonism, signaling a willingness to stake their reputations on forging a new relationship between the two nations. "We're going to have a great discussion and I think ... it will be tremendously successful", he said. "I believe this is a good prelude for peace".
"Past practices and prejudices were obstacles on our way forward, but we overcame all of them and are here today", Kim said.
Rodman arrived in Singapore around midnight Monday, hours before President Donald Trump was set to meet Kim for an historic summit.
Both men had looked serious as they got out of their limousines for the summit at the Capella hotel on Singapore's Sentosa, a resort island with luxury hotels, a casino, man-made beaches and a Universal Studios theme park.
Yet Trump and Kim have yet to agree even on how to define denuclearization of the Korean peninsula - the stated goal of the meeting. Before they parted ways, he promised that the pair would meet many times and, when asked if he'd extend an invitation for his North Korean counterpart to visit the White House, he said: "Absolutely I will". But it was photographed by the news media during a signing ceremony.
"The ultimate objective we seek from diplomacy with North Korea has not changed".
Inside, they sat alongside each other against a backdrop of North Korean and USA flags, with Kim beaming broadly as the US president gave him a thumbs up.
Trump's early exit will be his second from a summit in just a few days.

North Korea, it concludes, can only "actively contribute to world peace and human wellbeing", by engaging with other nations. Kim is expected to stay at the St Regis hotel and Trump at the Shangri-La, both in the Tanglin area in downtown Singapore .
