Donald Trump says National Basketball Association champion won't be invited to White House

"No, I didn't invite LeBron James, and I didn't invite Steph Curry".

"I think what you're seeing is, I think the athletes are showing patriotism through their community service", he said, alluding to the good deeds athletes do when they're away from the field. It seemed to be a moot point, as LeBron James said Tuesday that neither his Cavaliers nor the Warriors would accept a visit.

"We have other teams that are coming", Trump said, noting that the newly minted Stanley Cup champions, the Washington Capitals, would be invited. A new National Football League policy was announced last month that would fine teams if players kneel during the anthem but allow them to stay in the locker room in protest, prompted Trump to say, "maybe they shouldn't be in the country".

On the day the Philadelphia Eagles were supposed to be visiting the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl championship, participants in the 2018 NBA Finals ripped President Donald Trump and made it clear the NBA champion won't be going to White House, either.

"I know no matter who wins this series, no one wants to go anyway", James said.

Whether the Golden State Warriors complete the sweep in Game 4 of the NBA Finals tonight or if the Cleveland Cavaliers pull off the unthinkable and win it in 7, there won't be a championship celebration at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. How can you not invite someone over, when they had no intention of showing up anyhow?

Trump earlier praised the Capitals in a post on Twitter, citing Alex Ovechkin, the team's Russian-born star, who a year ago started what he called a "social movement" named PutinTeam to support Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Once he moved two sets ahead it merely became a race against time for Nadal to finish the match off before the rain arrived. A massive part of Nadal's legend on clay is that he makes players, however good, however aggressive, play on his terms.

It is important to note, however, that no Eagles players kneeled during the national anthem last season, TIME confirmed.

When told about James' comment, Curry agreed with his opponent's sentiment. In response, Trump disinvited the team.

Kerr was also asked about the reigning WNBA champion Minnesota Lynx, were apparently not invited to the White House to recognize their title.

"Any team that wins the championship is going to be in a decision-making situation where you have to do what is in the best interest of your team", he said.

"U bum @StephenCurry30 already said he ain't going!"

Warriors guard Stephen Curry is on the same page.

Professional and college sports teams have long celebrated championships with a ceremonial visit to the White House, but the tradition has become increasingly controversial under Trump.
