Singapore designates special zone for Trump-Kim summit

Singapore airspace to be restricted during US-North Korea summit on June 12

"Obviously, what all of us are hoping for is it would lead to a de-escalation of tension, raise the prospects of peace and for the sake of the North Koreans themselves improve the prospects for economic development", Balakrishnan told the Straits Times referring to the June 12 summit.

The U.S. State Department said on Tuesday that the "maximum pressure campaign" against the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) will continue although President Donald Trump said last week he had not liked the term.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, unable to meet North Korea's leader himself, is heading to Washington to try to make sure President Donald Trump doesn't overlook Japan's security and other concerns at the unprecedented U.S.

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani says special counsel Robert Mueller's team is trying to frame President Trump.

The letter, handwritten by Kim Jong-un in Korean, expressed the dictator's desire for the summit. She also said that denuclearisation will be one of the key items on the U.S. agenda for the meeting, despite North Korea's earlier announcement that it will not discuss its nuclear programme with foreign leaders.

White House spokesperson Sarah Sanders said earlier on Tuesday that the meeting would take place at the Capella Hotel on Singapore's Sentosa Island.

South Korea paid $2.5 million to cover the costs of more than 400 North Koreans, only 22 of whom were athletes, at the Pyeongchang Games in February.

The Singapore dialogue will be the first time a sitting USA president has met a North Korean leader. "But as the president said, they were interesting, and we feel like things are continuing to move forward and good progress has been made".

"North Korea (summit) looks like it's moving along very well.

They're very powerful, and we would not take those sanctions off unless North Korea denuclearises", she said. We are going to start a process. We can go fast, we can go slowly.

"Japan's economy does not stand out in northeast Asia as it did 16 years ago", he said, when Pyongyang and Tokyo last tried to negotiate a normalization of ties.

When it comes to paying for lodging at North Korea's preferred five-star luxury hotel, the United States is open to covering the costs, the two people said, but it's mindful that Pyongyang may view a USA payment as insulting.
