"And it's all within the budget that the prime minister has specified, anyway".

"It's unknown territory in the truest sense but I really feel confident", Trump said.

US President Donald Trump arrives at Paya Lebar Air Base for a summit with North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un, June 10, 2018, in Singapore.

"We have a very interesting meeting in particular tomorrow, and I think things can work out very nicely", Trump told Lee. Trump traveled to Singapore from Canada, where he attended a meeting with other world leaders.

A jet carrying Kim landed hours earlier.

It will be the first ever meeting between a sitting US President and North Korean leader.

Singapore's foreign minister Vivian Balakrishnan tweeted a selfie with Kim on the surprise walkabout late Monday.

Kim has shown surprising diplomatic skills in his meetings with overseas leaders this year.

No sitting U.S. president has ever met a North Korean leader.

Just hours before Donald Trump was scheduled to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore, the president was drawn back to Twitter where he took aim (albeit with poor spelling) at domestic critics.

Experts on North Korea say that the shortened meeting time leaves nearly no room to forge a path for Pyongyang's "complete, verifiable, irreversible denuclearization", or CVID, which the US State Department was promising just last week.

He said on Saturday that he thought that he would know "within the first minute" of the meeting how serious Kim would be to give up its nuclear program. The war was concluded with a truce, not a peace treaty, but a treaty will also have to include China, which was party to the armistice.

It's unclear what Trump and Kim might decide Tuesday.

Participants in a mass rally gather in Kim Il-Sung Square in Pyongyang on September 23, 2017.

Pompeo did say the United States is "prepared to take what will be security assurances that are different, unique that America has been willing to provide previously". Pyongyang's weapons program benefits from forced labor.

The meeting would have been unthinkable previous year when tensions spiraled in the region over North Korea's nuclear and missile programs as it raced toward the goal of developing a nuclear-tipped missile capable of hitting the United States. That is, experts suggest Pyongyang may only agree to give up its nukes in exchange for the USA terminating its military presence in South Korea and ending its regional nuclear umbrella, a security arrangement in which Washington promises in-kind retaliation on behalf of close allies if they are attacked with nuclear weapons.
