Wendy's had a savage response to the IHOb name change

Wendy's had a savage response to the IHOb name change

The name change was announced last week, but the company did not announce what the new name stands for until this morning.

On Monday, IHOb President Darren Rebelez made the big reveal: the name now means International House of Burgers.

The American chain teased the change June 4 on Twitter, saying "For 60 pancakin' years, we've been IHOP".

The new name also earned a few burns from another restaurant chain.

While some people may be upset about the name change itself, it's safe to say most of us are just enjoying the Internet's reaction to it.

The "b" is for burger, and the temporary change is tied to a rollout of its new line of Ultimate Steakburgers, a line-up of seven sandwiches. Wendy's, which is known for its humorous and slightly snarky Twitter account, said it wasn't too anxious about the competition: "Not really afraid of the burgers from a place that decided pancakes were too hard".

Owned by Dine Brands Global, IHOP had to do something to change the public's perception that its 1,750 eateries are one-trick ponies - that they were good for breakfast but not lunch of dinner.

The flapjack factory launched an advertising campaign Monday touting a $6.99 burger special with unlimited fries and a drink.

Burgers! The chain known for a breakfast staple has added more hamburgers to the menu.

"Not really afraid of the burgers from a place that decided pancakes were too hard", Wendy's said in another tweet. IHOP even later tweeted out a poll asking followers to guess what the "b" stood for, with possible answers including biscuits, bacon, butternut squash, and barnacles.

Texas-based Whataburger was one of the first companies to chime in on the name change. "But we want to convey that we are taking our burgers as seriously as our pancakes".

Other locations will have IHOb signs inside.
