Why Chris Mannix Isn’t Buying Talk Of LeBron James Signing With Celtics
13 June 2018, 01:04 | Pamela Mathis
With a deep talented roster that is about to get expensive the Boston Celtics are going to have decisions to make about who to pay
Pairing Irving with Porzingis could very well be the start of a new era in The Big Apple, but the volatility factor of free agency is often understated, as there are too many moving pieces that can all fall out of place by the time the Knicks try to hammer out a deal. It's felt like a number of seasons in one.
"It was going to be a process coming back", he said.
That came shortly after Celtics play-by-play man Mike Gorman said he wasn't sure if Irving would be a member of the Celtics in the coming seasons. He raved about Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, then noted how Marcus Smart gave up his body and "that's the type of attitude and effort you'd love to be part of".
That's the group Irving will lead next year, and it's the group he could lead for the foreseeable future, if he decides to remain in Boston.
LeBron James is the bane of the many National Basketball Association fans' existence.
Boston will be healthy next season and depending on what happens with LeBron and his free agency, the Celtics should be considered the early favorite in the East. While these reports are just talk at this point, while Irving was in Cleveland, he had expressed interest in going to NY to play for the Knicks on multiple occasions.
Trump and Kim Jong-un hold extended meeting
Kim smiled as he heard the translator interpret the president's remarks, before weighing in with a brief statement of his own. Described by his critics as a mini-Stalin, Kim has been on something of a charm offensive in Singapore since arriving Sunday.
"I would just say the consistency, the authenticity, and honesty, from everything that we're doing as a team and an organization", Irving said. "Our young guys [have experience] that sometimes other young guys in the league aren't necessarily afforded".
Talking about his future with the Celtics, Irving, unsurprisingly, said he doesn't plan to sign an extension with the team this summer, which he's eligible to do. "They gained a lot of experience, and now it can only help us going forward".
That simply isn't worth it, according to Mannix, because the Celtics already look like legitimate NBA Finals contenders after taking James and the Cavs to seven games in the Eastern Conference finals this past season - something he reiterated Monday.
In that Game 7, the Celtics came up short despite an impressive defensive performance, putting together one of the worst offensive showings of the postseason. I think, yeah, that's human nature to think about that kind of thing. However, do the Cavaliers want to be the team Irving deserts following the season?
