Trump’s former personal lawyer says he’ll put family first

ABC News said it secured an interview over the weekend with Michael Cohen President Trump’s longtime lawyer. Cohen said the inteview was off-camera

Trump denounced the raid of Cohen's office as a "disgraceful situation" and a "total witch hunt".

Michael Cohen has broken his silence.

Cohen sat for an interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos.

His remarks fanned speculation about whether Cohen has any incriminating material on Trump and whether he will "flip" on his former boss, with remarks sharply at odds with a past declaration that he would "take a bullet for the president". "My wife, my son and my daughter have my first loyalty and always will", he confirmed. When Stephanopoulos asked what he'd do if he had to choose between the President and his family, he emphatically stated that his family was his "first priority".

The former executive vice president of the Trump Organization also pushed back on Trump's characterization of the Mueller probe as a "witch hunt" and said he accepted the "unanimous conclusions" reached by U.S. intelligence agencies indicating that Russian Federation meddled in the 2016 election.

Any other settlements with other women, and details about those affairs, including possible violations of campaign-finance or other laws.

The interview comes almost three months after the Federal Bureau of Investigation raided Cohen's office and home, after Mueller referred his case to the US District Attorney's office in NY.

Trump asks Saudi Arabia to increase oil production

On the history of the Stormy Daniels' payment, Cohen said he wanted to talk about it and "one day I will answer".

Cohen was Trump's longtime fixer and a key player in the Trump Organization.

A source close to Trump and Cohen told CNN that they believe Cohen is making the case to justify why he will turn against the President.

Cohen is in the process of hiring a new attorney in Guy Petrillo - a former federal prosecutor with the Southern District of NY, the same office now investigating Cohen - and throughout the interview, as The Washington Post noted, Cohen said that he would consult Petrillo before answering questions about what he can say regarding Trump.

I don't minimize the general amusement factor inherent in how nervous Cohen's interview might make certain people who deserve to be made as nervous as possible. "I respect the Federal Bureau of Investigation as an institution, as well as their agents", Cohen told ABC News. "I am not a villain in any story and won't allow others to try and depict me in that way".

Hendon, Petrillo and Cohen's team at McDermott did not respond to TPM's Monday requests for comment.

But Cohen did criticize Trump campaign aides who took part in a June 2016 meeting in Trump Tower with several Russians after being promised damaging information about Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. Besides Cohen's office, agents also searched a hotel room at the Loews Regency where he's been staying while his home is under renovation. "But for now I can't comment further" based on advice from his own attorney. "Nonetheless, the agents were respectful, courteous and professional". Legal analysts say gambling on a pardon would be a wild strategy for a lawyer of Petrillo's caliber and standing.
