Facebook to shut down 3 underused apps

Facebook is Shutting Down Hello, tbh, and Moves Apps

Facebook to shutter three of its mobile applications, including ‘Moves’ fitness tracking

Facebook claimed that the user data from all the three apps would be deleted within 90 days. Moves will shutdown on July 31st. Facebook acquired tbh a year ago - if you've not heard of it before, it's an anonymous social media app aimed at high school students in the US that encouraged teens to be nice towards each other.

In a post on its website, Facebook has announced that there will be three more apps that will be getting the axe. Like Moves, Android dialers are hardly difficult to come by, and the Facebook-branded version struggled to offer much more than what was readily available elsewhere. Facebook said it was deprecating the Moves app and Moves API on July 31. Hello was a way for Android users in Nigeria, Brazil and the United States to link up their Facebook accounts with their phones' contact lists. Facebook had said at the time the company's resources would be able to help tbh "continue to expand and build positive experiences", and at least some of the people involved in tbh appear to be staying put for now despite the closure.

The fitness-tracking Moves app, which Facebook purchased in 2014, records your daily activities, including walking, cycling, and running.

In 2014, we bought the fitness app Moves. Last but not least, tbh is another app acquired by Facebook past year, an anonymous social media app for high school students in the United States. It let users create quizzes their friends could vote on, and you can see how it worked in practice here.

"We know some people are still using these apps and will be disappointed - and we'd like to take this opportunity to thank them for their support", the post added. But we need to prioritize our work so we don't spread ourselves too thin. Sometimes this means closing an app and its accompanying APIs.
