Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago applies for 40 additional foreign hires

What Trump's Mar-A-Lago trips cost taxpayers

NEW YORK-President Donald Trump's private Palm Beach resort is seeking permission from the government to hire 40 additional temporary foreign workers to staff Mar-a-Lago during the ritzy Florida community's busy season, according to United States Department of Labor records released Thursday.

President Donald Trump often conveys a strong preference for American workers. The ads were posted a week after the president's resort asked the Labor Department for permission to hire 70 foreign workers, which was granted last November.

The H-2B visas are for temporary non-agricultural workers and employers requesting these must prove that there are not enough workers in the USA who are "able, willing, qualified, and available to do the temporary work".

Since late 2015, Mar-a-Lago has filed 10 separate requests for multiple temporary work visas for foreign employees.

Trump's own immigration plan calls for "companies to hire from the domestic pool of unemployed".

The posting further revealed the commander-in-chief's club plans to pay a minimum of $12.68 an hour to the workers, who will be reportedly employed from October to the end of May.

He sure loves hiring foreign workers on the cheap, though! Since 2010 Mar-a-Lago alone has obtained a total of 500 H-2B visas for seasonal foreign workers, according to The New Yorker.

A review of the Trump Foundation's tax records back to 2008 revealed that almost all of the $706,000 in donations the organization made went to charities that hosted large events at Trump's exclusive south Florida golf resort, according to an analysis by The Palm Beach Post.

In April 2017, Trump signed the "Buy American and Hire American Executive Order", which sought to boost job opportunities for US workers by "rigorously enforcing and administering our immigration laws".

Despite Trump railing about immigrants in the country, his administration made an extra 15,000 H-2B visas available for businesses in May.

Another was the Salvation Army, which in the past, held charitable events at both The Breakers and Mar-a-Lago. And the Trump Winery near Charlottesville sought to employ 23 foreigners.
