Chelsea expect to appoint former Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri as Conte's replacement

Conte surprisingly took charge of training on Monday at Cobham despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, while it has been claimed that Manchester City are bracing for the prospect of missing out on Jorginho and lining up alternatives.

The Chelsea players had only received word from Antonio Conte's staff this week that they would be returning for a full pre-season training camp starting on Monday.

Chelsea endured a rather frustrating season last term in the Premier League as they finished fifth on the table.

Blues players not involved in World Cup duty have two days of tests at the club's Cobham training ground before full training restarts.

Fellow Italian Maurizio Sarri has been the main man in the frame to succeed his fellow countryman, although Sky Sports Italy have reported that negotiations between Napoli and Chelsea regarding Sarri's appointment as Conte's potential replacement are in 'deadlock'.

While a number of his players have been away on worldwide duty at the World Cup, those who have not been to Russian Federation have returned to Chelsea's Cobham training ground to start getting into shape once again.

Conte is also holding out for his £9m and intends to work his past year of his contract unless he gets it, having not had any concrete offers from other clubs and after turning down Italy's interest in re-appointing him.

According to a report from Italian outlet Tuttosport (via Football Italia), the club now want €20m in compensation from Chelsea before they let Sarri depart for the Premier League.
