There is no doubt English football fans are celebrating their nation's World Cup success hard, but not everyone is impressed by the antics of a select few.

World Cup fever has struck the country as Gareth Southgate has led his side to the World Cup semi final.

Multiple social media platforms are overflowing with memes, fan made videos, and tweets from England fans, cheering for their favorite team.

Pedantic? Sure, but hey, that's what it's called, and as England march on through a fairly unchallenging World Cup path to glory, it's a touch irritating seeing it misused en masse.

And here's some context for you: "Three Lions" has kept Drake - yes, that's the global phenomenon Drake - off the top slot in the Spotify UK charts.

Three Lions was only No 33 when it entered the Top 40 last week, but has risen to the very top after England's 2-0 quarter finals win against Sweden.

The line comes from a song called Three Lions (Football's Coming Home) performed by comedians David Baddiel and Frank Skinner, and Ian Broudie of the Lightning Seeds in 1996 to mark the European Championships that were being held in England that year.

England's Southgate eyeing Moscow semi-final clash with Russian Federation
The 1966 World Cup champions last reached the semifinals in 1990, losing the first of a series of haunting penalty shootouts. England's Marcus Rashford, left, comforts Sweden's Victor Lindelof at the end of their quarterfinal match.

The Independent, normally a paper which works to reject any kind of jingoism, cries "On Top of the World - Bring on (semi-final rivals) Croatia", forgetting England are not actually on "top of the world" they still have two steps to go. The game officially branched off from rugby there in 1863, with the creation of the Football Association in England, according to FIFA.

Three Lions has been buzzing around the office all summer.

Altogether now...."It's Coming Home!"

"Sometimes it's hard to break a team down, so if you win 1-0, if they had won the game 1-0 (against Colombia), it wasn't a classic in any way".
