The new US$399 "Surface Go" has a ten-inch screen and comes in a tablet form factor. For charging and docking, there's Surface Connect and USB Type-C 3.1, as well as a microSD card reader for storage expansion.
The Surface Go is now Microsoft's fourth attempt at a smaller version of its Surface tablet, which would give us pause had we not seen the device first. LTE variants of the Surface Go should come to the market at a later date.
When will the Surface Go be on sale? It, too, is available in multiple colors to match the other Surface Go accessories.
Like Microsoft's earlier devices, the Surface Go will work with optional keyboards and mouses.
There is also a 5MP selfie camera in front alongside a Windows Hello face sign-in camera so you can log in with facial recognition. Throw in a $99 Surface Pen and a $99 Type Cover ($129 for the Signature version) and you're way past the other two. Otherwise, you get a single port for USB-C - a new universal standard that replaces the USB slot you might be familiar with.
The lightweight, 1.15-pound Surface Go - about twice as big as many smartphones - is created to be portable, but Microsoft has also developed accessories to give it more of a laptop feel. It's affordable, runs Windows 10 and even has a feature you can't find on the company's flagship Surface Pro. Your limits are, of course, that IntelPentium Gold processor and 4 GB RAM.
The long-rumoured device, which will be available to pre-order from Tuesday from $399 (around £300), is Redmond's "smallest and lightest" Surface tablet yet. Microsoft says the 27-watt-hour battery is rated for up to 9 hours of battery life. However, they can choose to upgrade to full Windows 10 Home for free. But while the Surface Go is indeed pocketable, it only has one screen, meaning that this ain't it.
If you're in Japan, you can order it starting on July 11, in Singapore and Korea on August 2, and in China on August 8.
