RCMP announce arrest in Humboldt bus crash

A truck driver in Canada who crashed into a bus and killed 16 people in April was charged Friday with 29 counts of unsafe operation of a vehicle causing death and bodily injury.

Sidhu is scheduled to appear in court in Saskatchewan next week, and will remain in custody until then.

The tractor trailer he was driving crashed into a bus carrying members of the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team, aged 16 to 21.

The bus was traveling north on Highway 35 to an SJHL playoff game and had the right of way when the collision occurred, the RCMP said.

Now that charges have been laid in the Humboldt Broncos bus crash, those in the community, like many, patiently await the outcome.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said investigators from its Major Crime Unit arrested Sidhu from his home in Calgary in the western province of Alberta. If the case goes to trial, he said someone from the Boulet family will be in court.
