Iran detains teenage girl for posting dance videos on Instagram

Maedeh Hojabri, who was born in Tehran, practiced gymnastics for few years before participating in the sport of Parkour, a training discipline using movement that developed from military obstacle course, which is the reason for her current accusation.

Masih Alinejad, an Iranian activist and journalist, posted the following video of herself dancing without her obligatory headscarf.

Iran's state television on Friday telecasted a video of Hojabri and other arrested persons confessing to breaking moral norms. Ms Hojabri's videos showed her dancing at home without the mandatory headscarf, or hijab.

Hojabri was an Instagram star with tens of thousands of followers but also used multiple accounts on other social media. As of now, it's unclear whether the teen dancer made her statement under duress.

According to various news reports, Maedeh Hojabri, 18, an Iranian teenager was detained by the Police and later released on bail. Iran, which has a hardline policy on social networking websites, is planning to shut down similar accounts on Instagram, and the judiciary is considering blocking access to the site.

Iranian woman are not allowed to dance in front of men except for close family members.

In 2014, six young Iranians were sentenced to a year in prison and 91 lashes for doing a jig to Pharrell Williams' song "Happy", on the streets and rooftops of Tehran.
