The poisoning of the Skripals was the first known offensive use of such a chemical weapon in Europe since World War Two.

Sturgess and Rowley fell ill on June 30.

Police initially thought they had consumed a contaminated batch of illegal drugs but their symptoms prompted further testing which confirmed their exposure to Novichok.

Britain has blamed Russian Federation for the poisonings, but Moscow has strongly denied any involvement.

Britain has notified the global chemical weapons watchdog, the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

Yulia Skripal, Sergei's daughter, was in a coma for 20 days after she was attacked and was eventually discharged about five weeks after the poisoning.

Lorna Wilkinson, director of nursing at the hospital, said on Tuesday: "We have seen a small but significant improvement in the condition of Charlie Rowley". Her father was discharged on May 18.

Wiltshire Police tweeted on Monday (Tuesday NZ Time) that the auto was being "safely" removed and reminded the public that the risk of contamination with the agent was low.
