A statement on its website reads, "We will make it clear to the British government that it's not OK to normalize Trump's agenda and the hate and fear it has sparked".

Trump also set a hard line on the country's ongoing "Brexit" negotiations, telling the tabloid that he advised Prime Minister Theresa May against the "soft" blueprint she recently presented to alleviate economic fallout as the country separates from the European Union. But on Friday, the president said he trusts May.

Trump also said the deal that May's government has proposed would "probably kill" any trade agreement with the US because Washington "would be dealing with the European Union" instead of with the United Kingdom.

While it seemed Trump had backtracked on his criticism of the Brexit plan, as the press conference went on he flagged up areas of concerns with the US's current trade with the EU.

On Boris Johnson, the former Foreign Secretary who has been such a thorn in Mrs May's side, he said he was a "a very talented guy", adding: "I like him a lot".

Donald Trump sat next to Theresa May and said we really have a very good relationship.

"I was very saddened to see he was leaving government and I hope he goes back in at some point".

"I would much rather have her as my friend than my enemy", he said.
