Statement from NCAA leaders on college basketball reforms

The NCAA on Wednesday announced sweeping changes regarding college basketball eligibility, agents and other reforms in response to both the FBI investigation into alleged college basketball corruption past year and the April recommendations by the Commission on College Basketball.

Agents can pay for meals and transportation for players and their families if the expenses are related to the agent selection process.

Some of the changes go into effect immediately.

The move comes as the National Basketball Association is expected to eliminate the one-and-done rule within the next five years.

As US slaps on fresh tariffs, China fires back
July 10: TheUS releases an initial listof an additional $200 billion worth of Chinese goods that could be subject to a 10% tariff. The trade balance between the two countries, which is at the center of the tariffs tussle, continued to be in favor of China.

According to ESPN, another significant change that was adopted by the NCAA's Board of Governors and Division I Board of Directors is allowing "elite" high school basketball recruits and players to be represented by agents who are certified by the NCAA while still playing. College players will also be allowed representation as soon as their seasons end if they request an evaluation from the NBA Undergraduate Advisory Committee.

Players invited to the annual NBA Draft Combine would also be able to enter the draft and return to school with eligibility intact if they go undrafted. However, athletes can only officially visit a school once per year. But USA Basketball, according to Wojnarowski, doesn't have the interest or resources to carry out that task. Athletes returning to school would have to demonstrate need for assistance. "Those who break rules face stronger penalties, including longer postseason bans, longer head coach suspensions, increased recruiting restrictions and additional fines".

The Rice Commission, led by former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, was formed in response to an FBI investigation into payments from shoe companies to coaches for steering players to certain schools.
