On Thursday, after CNN made another request for comment, Twitter said it would review the content.

"If we succumb and simply react to outside pressure, rather than straightforward principles we enforce (and evolve) impartially regardless of political viewpoints, we become a service that's constructed by our personal views that can swing in any direction", Dorsey tweeted. Dorsey also said that journalists should "document, validate, and refute" the falsities and "sensationalized issues" that accounts like Jones' peddle.

"What is it that you think journalists do?" During a July 23 InfoWars broadcast, Jones pantomimed shooting special counsel Robert Mueller, whom Jones calls "a monster" and accuses of involvement in a child sex ring.

Jones is facing five defamation suits, as NPR's Bill Chappell and Anastasia Tsioulcas reported, majority centering on comments about school shootings: "He has been accused of knowingly spreading false information about the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting this year, the violence in Charlottesville, Va., last year and the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012".

You need only read about the struggles of the parents of Noah Pozner, a six-year-old victim of the Sandy Hook massacre, to understand just how evil and hate-filled Alex Jones is.

The company is also evaluating whether it should consider "off-platform behavior" when enforcing policies.

Those rules have shifted over time, as Dorsey pointed out. "While we welcome everyone to express themselves on our service, we prohibit targeted behavior that harasses, threatens, or uses fear to silence the voices of others".

Death toll from Indonesia quake climbs over 320
A Reuters witness said the latest quake sent people into the streets in panic and caused buildings to collapse. There have been 355 aftershocks since the last quake happened on Sunday, which killed at least 131 people.

Jones - whose content was removed this week from Facebook, YouTube, Spotify and Apple for violating hate speech guidelines - has fueled false conspiracy theories about the deadly 2012 Sandy Hook elementary school shooting.

Dorsey's stance has drawn ire from others in the tech world, such as former Reddit CEO Ellen Pao. "If your site is the only one allowing this hate and harassment, it will get overrun and collapse".

It is true that the other companies' removal of pages and podcasts by Jones and InfoWars - first by taking down a few videos, then by determining that their repeated violations of community standards warranted a blackout - sparked cries of a tech industry conspiracy.

By its own admission, Twitter's content policies remain a work in progress.

On Sunday, Apple took action, banning several podcasts from iTunes.

"[This] will play into Alex Jones's narrative that he's being censored by this liberal cabal of Silicon Valley powerful companies", she said. When there are enough complaints ("strikes") against an "offending" party such as Infowars, Facebook, YouTube and the like suspend them - or even outright ban them. "We continue to monitor apps for violations of our guidelines and if we find content that violates our guidelines and is harmful to users we will remove those apps from the store as we have done previously".
