Maurizio Sarri: 'I must adapt to Chelsea'

0:48 David Wagner insists the recent Little Mix is not to blame for the condition of Huddersfield's pitch

Chelsea beat Huddersfield Town 3-0 to give Maurizio Sarri a winning start as manager of the Blues.

Huddersfield had given as good as they got before going behind to N'Golo Kante's scuffed 34th-minute volley.

"My job is on the pitch, to improve my players", said Sarri.

Here are the winners and losers from the match.

And in the first game of the season it brought some reward with the French World Cup victor scoring the opener against Huddersfield.

Real Madrid keeper Thibaut Courtois has apologised to Chelsea for missing training before his move to the Spanish club and his agent says it is because the Belgium player was "stressed".

Huddersfield enjoyed more possession toward the half-hour mark as Steve Mounie's rising effort cleared the crossbar and a series of crosses from Huddersfield left-back Chris Lowe tested Chelsea's defence. Apparently limitless reserves of energy meant the France global was able to maintain the high-tempo press from midfield throughout the game.

But the Spaniard just looked a yard off pace from the start with sloppy passing and some poor first touches. Sarri had said that Chelsea were overthinking their play at times against Manchester City when they were well beaten in the Community Shield last week, but that was the football that Sarri's four weeks in charge have led up to and Jorginho was unsurprisingly involved.

Huddersfield, too, can take heart from the performance, certainly in the first half.

The striker needs a goal to get his confidence up or both he and Chelsea may suffer.

Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger has no doubts over the commitment of Eden Hazard.

Hazard came on for Willian with just 15 minutes of the game remaining but that was enough time for him to make an impression and really stake his claim as one of the best players in the Premier League once again.

Jorginho's penalty raised eyebrows and delighted neutrals, the former Napoli midfielder deceiving goalkeeper Ben Hamer with a skip in his run-up before rolling the ball home.

This would have been one for Huddersfield, but it is still early.

The Italian has been tasked with returning Chelsea to among the league's title contenders and he strengthened well during the summer, bringing in Jorginho, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Mateo Kovacic and Rob Green. Sarri has a hybrid engine in his midfield, with Kante providing the energy and Jorginho combining technique with tactical intelligence. Jorginho stepped up and cooly found the back of the net.
