California Gov. Jerry Brown signs renewable energy bill

California Commits To 100 Percent Clean Energy By 2045

California to Move Toward 100% Clean Energy by 2045 Under Bill Signed by Gov. Brown

"It will not be easy".

As the Trump administration rolls back federal efforts to combat climate change, California has actively pursued a leading role in the worldwide fight against global warming.

The new law comes days before Mr Brown hosts the Global Climate Action Summit in San Francisco.

On Monday, September 10, Governor Jerry Brown signed a law that committed the state to going 100 percent renewable by 2045.

The law, known as SB 100, also sets goals of 50 percent clean energy by 2025 and 60 percent by 2030.

California is doing a pretty good job of flying the flag for renewable energy in the U.S., as the state has just announced it will aim to bolster its climate targets.

California is not the first government to promise that homes and businesses would be able to get all their electricity from sources that do not pollute the air and warm the atmosphere.

IPhone XR Poised For Long-Term Success Says Analyst
If there was any takeaway in Apple's big iPhone unveiling on Wednesday, it's that buying an Apple handset is really expensive. Sadly, it's now time to hold a candle to the iPhone X as Apple has discontinued its "revolutionary" flagship for this year.

"We applaud the governor for his support to make a 100% clean energy grid a reality for our great state, and demonstrating California's global leadership for a secure, clean, affordable energy future", said Amisha Rai, Senior Director of California Policy for the Advanced Energy Economy (AEE).

"Energy Storage is critical to supporting the increasing penetration of renewables throughout North America and the globe, and our community is ready to deliver", said Janice Lin, Co-founder and Chair of ESNA.

Monday's law goes further, saying the last 40 percent of the 100 percent total can come from "carbon-free" sources, including large dams, nuclear power and even natural gas-fired power plants, if they can capture and store the carbon in the ground, which so far is an unproven technology. "Hydropower offers the most flexibility but is scarce during drought years".

Before the new 100 percent renewable goal, lawmakers approved "higher renewable energy use, tighter greenhouse gas targets, and extension of the cap-and-trade program", he wrote.

Brown has a number of bills headed for his desk that would also set a standard for other states, including a bill that would hold retailers jointly responsible for workplace abuses against port truckers at ports including Los Angeles, Long Beach, and Oakland; and a bill that would mandate women on the public, corporate boards of companies in California.

Some cities across the USA have attained 100 percent renewable electricity or energy supplies - including Aspen, Colorado, Burlington, Vermont, and Georgetown, Texas.

"We've reached all these great goals with renewables, but at the same time our families have paid the price with an increase in their electric bills every year", said Devon Mathis, R-Visalia, during the Assembly debate. In addition, the legislation includes mandatory interim targets that will drive continued expansion of the renewable energy industry in the near term, which already employs more than 150,000 Californians.
