Jean-Claude Juncker deals blow to Theresa May as Tory plotting intensifies

The European Union is under massive political pressure to further cut the flow of migrants to the bloc after having sharply reduced arrivals since a 2015 peak as a result of cooperation with Turkey and Libya.

In his annual State and Union address, Jean Claude Juncker said, an hour was a decisive time window.

It was the fourth and previous year of its kind for Jean-Claude Juncker. "I don't", Junker said.

The European Commission recommended in March that the EU states impose national rules with the one-hour limit and is now proposing EU-wide legislation, after finding that voluntary efforts by the internet industry have not done enough.

During his address, Juncker touched upon a number of issues including migration and Europe's relationship with Africa, the state of ongoing Brexit negotiations, the rule of law and attitudes towards journalists across the European Union and the need for member states to decide between summer or winter time, among other points.

Trade between Africa and Europe, said Juncker, was not insignificant - 36 percent of Africa's trade is with the European Union, compared to 16 percent with China and 6 percent with the United States.

Boosting the role of the euro as a reserve currency would also create a means of skirting USA sanctions that it disagrees with, such as those slapped back on Tehran by Trump when he pulled out of the Iran nuclear deal earlier this year in the face of bitter European opposition.

President Jean-Claude Juncker said: "We all say in soap-box speeches that we want to be big on big things and small on small things. Ad-hoc solutions are not adequate, we need more solidarity and it must be organised".

Rockfall at Greek beach injures tourists
Rescue teams with sniffer dogs have reportedly been dispatched to help local authorities search for the missing. Among those injured was a 34-year-old woman from the Czech Republic, who suffered a fractured vertebra.

This included finding solidarity in the face of a core member leaving the Union, in the case of Brexit, but also the hard terrain of disciplining member states who appeared to be running counter to European values, as in the case of Poland and, most recently, Hungary.

Juncker said the European Union would "always show loyalty and solidarity with Ireland when it comes to the Irish border".

In a sign that Brussels remains open to a post-Brexit trade deal with the UK outside the single market, Mr Juncker added that "the United Kingdom will never be an ordinary third country for us".

"Terrorists do not recognise borders", Juncker said.

"Too many of our journalists are intimidated, attacked or even murdered...we can not have democracy without free press", Juncker said. Each service provider will have a designated point of contact to facilitate communication with the member states. We continue to be very concerned by the developments in some of our Member States.

"We are a country which honours our obligations, we believe in the rule of law and therefore we believe in abiding by our legal obligations", she told MPs.

"It will not be the commission that will stand in the way".

"Judgements from the Court of Justice must be respected and implemented". I stick with the opinion that it was a correct decision after the fall of communism.
